UPDATE: The original version of this article incorrectly indicated that the Xbox would be launching a “new music service” to play Zune content. But we got it wrong: it already is capable of this. Thanks go to Marques Lyons for pointing out that the original source of this report was wrong; shame goes to me for reprinting the error without verifying the facts. I’ve rewritten the article to reflect the real news. My sincere apologies.
Microsoft’s drive to make the Xbox the center of your living room is gathering steam as the company reveals that your voice will become the key to the device’s multimedia experience.
Using Kinect, users will be able to search for music, among other media types, using their voices and Kinect — just like the console’s Bing integration. When you want to order your console around, just say “Xbox [media type]” and it’ll listen.
In a keynote, chief executive Steve Ballmer said the following:
“Our goal for this year is to increase the content in our entertainment catalogue from hundreds of thousands of entertainment experiences to many millions of entertainment experiences.”
All you’ll need to do is just say the word.
