We’re not sure if you’ve noticed, but the world is slowly turning away from 3D. That, of course, isn’t standing in the way of LG, which has introduced the first glasses-free monitor equipped with eye tracking technology. How the latter helps the former is actually pretty interesting. One of the the central problems plaguing 3D displays (other than the whole 3D thing) is that viewers are forced to watch at a certain distance and angle in order to see the 3D effect. The D2000’s eye tracking technology solves this problem by tracking the viewer’s eyes and adjusting the visuals to create the best 3D image.
LG hasn’t said much about besides that, but if the D2000 is as compelling in execution as it is on paper, LG may just turn the tide back in 3D’s favor. Maybe. Expect the monitor later this year.
